East Cleveland Public Library

The East Cleveland Public Library offers a variety of programs and resources for all ages, which include but aren’t limited to the following: notary and passport services, access to books, computers, and cultural classes. It opened in 1916 with the long-term vision to “cultivate and embolden” the literacy of patrons and community members alike. Since then, the pandemic and other factors have decreased the accessibility of broadband for seniors. To combat this issue, the Mobile Outreach Digital Literacy Program, or MODL, was created.

The Mobile Outreach Digital Literacy Program consists of workshop sessions at the East Cleveland Public Library’s partnering locations. In 2021, the library was given a $20,000 grant from The McGregor Foundation, and part of these funds paid for the NorthStar literacy software training, which contains literacy assessment tests, as well as supplemental videos that teach basic computer and software skills. That way, seniors have more resources at their disposal if they are unable to attend a workshop. If they don’t own a computer, they can still access this software at the library or at their facility. At the end of the training, they receive a certificate to celebrate their achievements.
